The future cooperation of Navtel Communications Inc. and the TU Berlin
The Canadian expert in the field of test solutions in the telecommunication industry, Navtel Communications Inc. and the Technische Universität Berlin have signed a cooperation agreement. The DAI-Labor (Distributed Artificial Intelligence), managed by Prof. Dr. Sahin Albayrak, is the contract partner of the TU Berlin.
The cooperation aims at generating test concepts for multimedia applications and technologies for future services in telecommunication networks of the next generation. These services for
future networks based on the Internet Protocol (IP), e.g. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), can be used recardless of the type of access, e.g. UMTS, GPRS, WLAN or IP. Navtel
Communications Inc. will supply the test system for simulating a vast number of network users in order to measure in an extremely busy environment. Furthermore there will be tests on soft-switches, routers and basic components of future heterogeneous networks as well as application servers regarding their conformity with the appropriate standards and the interoperability of different implementations.
The DAI-Labor will make the test environment available in the shape of a complex Next
Generation Converged Network (NGcN) infrastructure. Tests and measurements will be carried out by scientists and experts for SIP, QoS (Quality of Service), IPv6 (Internet Protocol Version 6) etc.
There will be a joint use of the research results to generate test concepts and new test
enhancements. The results and ideas of this cooperation will be made available to the mobile phone suppliers, the producers of components for next generation networks.
Navtel Communications Inc.
Established in 1976, Navtel Communications Inc. is a global provider of leading edge test
solutions for Next Generation Converged Networks (NGcN).
Navtel's solutions enable manufacturers and service providers to perform comprehensive automated testing of signaling, data and transport planes, using a progressive methodology that includes functional, conformity, interoperability, performance and scalability testing.
Substantial investment in a strong and dedicated R&D team coupled with participation in
leading industry organizations has allowed them to become the experts in new and emerging
technologies.
Navtel's InterWatch
The InterWatch platform is a powerful, complete network test solution. It provides a combination of modular interfaces and applications to meet the needs of the most challenging test environments. The InterWatch architecture provides application testing support for leading technologies including Voice over IP (VoIP), Generalized/Multi Protocol Label Switching (G.MPLS/MPLS), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Quality of Service (QoS), ATM Signaling (UNI, PNNI), Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA), IP Performance Testing and Access technologies.
The DAI-Labor at the TU Berlin
The DAI-Labor located at TU Berlin consists of more than 70 employees who represent a broad field of expertise in telecommunications and software development. Their work ranges from up-to-date and future cellular telephone networks to world wide leading action plans for the development of services for fast and cost-optimized service research.
Computer Scientist Sahin Albayrak, born in 1958 in Turkey, has been managing the DAI-Labor of TU Berlin for twelve years. Research projects have almost entirely been financed by the German Federal Department for Education and Research
(Bundesforschungsministerium BMBF) and the European Union.
The DAI-Labor generates the test and development environment "Beyond-3G-Testbed" for an efficient development of cellular services and applications. The DAI-Labor is one of the most significant institutions in this field and belongs to the
faculty 'Electrical Engineering and Computer Science' at the TU Berlin.
